#1: Being obsessed with lifting heavy!

Ever notice that you FEEL the muscle better on your warm up sets than you do on your “working sets”? Isn’t it so true that the lighter weights often burn way more than the heavy ones? Why do you think that is?

Well, one of the main reasons is that you’re not focusing all your attention on stabilizing a weight and barely moving it from point A to point B, likely using every muscle in the general vicinity to get it to move and the range is WAY smaller than it was with the lighter weight.

The PROBLEM here is that the TENSION has SHIFTED everywhere BUT the working muscle!

Your body adapts and starts using anything it can to keep itself safe. You can continue lifting heavy weights, all day long, but without optimal muscle tension, don’t expect to see any improvement in your skinny arms and legs! If you can’t “feel” your muscles then you won’t be able to exhaust them enough to illicit the hormonal, metabolic and nervous system response for muscle growth.

Lat Exercises & Lat Workouts

Let’s face it the whole purpose of lat exercises and lat workouts are to get that perfect v taper, the characteristic narrow  waist , wide sweeping back flanked by muscular delts.

In order to achieve the v taper you need to incorporate specific lat exercises into your lat workout that target the widening of your lat muscles.

This is where my line of thinking deviates from the old school way of back training. You see traditionally we have been told that the best lat exercises for developing wide sweeping lats were looked upon as being the ones where you could get a very wide grip in particular wide grip lat Pulldowns and pullups. The main thought behind this was that you had to train wide to get wide.

But there are two major drawbacks with these particular lat workouts let me explain why.

  1. With wide grip lat exercises more emphasis is put on the rhomboids, traps and muscles around your scapula rather than directly on your lats.  Now because these muscles are much smaller than the lats they tend to exhaust faster, so that your lats do not get the full force of your lat workout.
  2. Secondly when performing wide grip lat exercises due mainly to the enforced arm position you do not get the full stretch in the lat muscles and it is the stretch which activates new growth in the back muscles.

So here is the answer……

In order to build the v taper and maximise the stretch you need to incorporate narrow grip lat exercises into your lat  workouts, and the best apparatus is the  ”V-Bar” attachment!

The beauty of the v bar attachment is that use a full range of movement and target a much larger range of muscle fibers resulting in greater back muscle growth.

This is just one of the many muscle building tips revealed in the Hardgainer Project X program which lifts a lid on how to build muscle fast.  Hardgainers notoriously have thinner lat muscles and smaller supporting muscles so this simple lat training tip aids them in lifting more weight so triggering more muscle fibres which leads to greater muscle growth.
